Interconnectors

Interconnectors are a critical component of the UK’s pathway to net zero. Interconnection with the European region allows markets to maintain high-levels of generation from intermittent renewables rather than curtailing generation when it is not required to meet domestic demand. The Committee on Climate Change has predicted that a ten fold increase in interconnector capacity from 2020 levels will be required to enable the UK to achieve net zero by 2050.

Frontier Power’s team has significant interconnector experience and members of the team have led the technical and commercial development of subsea interconnectors for National Grid. With its investment partners, Frontier Power is leading the development of further interconnector projects to Europe which will provide more than 2.5GW of capacity.
