Frontier Power Announces Strategic Partnership with Cerberus to Strengthen UK Energy Infrastructure
Frontier Power Ltd. (“Frontier”) is pleased to announce that it is entering into a strategic joint venture with an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. (“Cerberus”) to accelerate the development of its portfolio of long-duration energy storage (“LDES”) projects under the UK’s Cap and Floor regime.
As part of the joint venture, Frontier has secured an initial £44 million investment from Cerberus, forming the first stage of a broader commitment of up to £159 million to advance Frontier’s portfolio of regulated storage assets across the United Kingdom.
Frontier and Cerberus will establish the joint venture to deploy long-term capital into LDES infrastructure that enhances grid stability, reinforces energy security, and supports the reliability of the UK’s power system.
“This partnership will marks an important milestone for Frontier,” said Humza Malik, CEO of Frontier Power. “Cerberus’ support provides both immediate momentum and enduring institutional backing to scale our LDES portfolio under the Cap and Floor framework. Together, we are building the next generation of storage assets that will strengthen the resilience and flexibility of the UK’s electricity network.”
Aaron Maczonis, Managing Director at Cerberus, added: “We are proud to partner with Frontier Power, whose team has demonstrated exceptional capability in advancing large-scale energy storage projects within the UK regulatory framework. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to investing in critical LDES infrastructure that underpins energy reliability and national security.”
The partnership is to combine Frontier’s technical and regulatory expertise with Cerberus’ experience as a global infrastructure investor. Together, the parties aim to deliver at least 16 Cap and Floor–eligible projects representing over 20 GWh of storage capacity across the United Kingdom.
