Frontier Power (offshore transmission - UK)
The UK is rapidly developing its offshore transmission network to support a fast growing offshore wind industry. This is now emerging as a major investment opportunity for new entrants to the UK’s transmission sector. The UK government plans to tender competitively some US $30bn of offshore transmission assets over the next ten years.
Frontier Power was early in identifying the scale of the opportunity in this segment, and has a target to secure US $5bn to US $7bn of these assets under its management.
Working with a consortium of leading financial institutions and infrastructure funds (Macquarie Capital Group Limited, Barclays Infrastructure Funds Management Limited and Mitsubishi Corporation) Frontier Power has already succeeded in winning four bids in total worth over US $1.3bn (£820m).
Frontier Power worked with the consortium to secure the financing of these assets, led material parts of the transaction and will manage the assets for an initial period of 12 years with an option to extend to 20 years, giving secure quality returns to investors through effective commercial and technical management of these major offshore transmission assets.
